Friday Favorites {Christmas Dreaming}

I’m currently watching The National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, one of my dad’s all time favorites, and I’m wondering where my motivation and inspiration to write has been. The reality is, I’ve checked out…not in a bad way. More like a 5 year old little girl lost in a Christmas dream of fa la la la-ing, watching The Polar Express as many times as possible, twinkling lights, and pretty wrappings.
french farmhouseIt’s been a hectic week to say the least, which includes being emotionally distracted from the heartbreaking events that recently occurred in Newtown, CT, my roommate’s hometown. I’m at a loss of words and still can’t wrap my head around what happened, but all I know is that my heart is with all those families and the entire town. Of all the times in a year something so heart-wrenching can happen, it would be now when everyone is supposed to be “merry and bright”.

Well the truth is life isn’t all sugar plums, there will always be hardships but it’s how we change and react to these things that affect our life. It’s good to know, from my roommates family, that the although this is a very sad time, the people of Newtown have found the good spirit to stick together and help one another. After all, isn’t that the true meaning of the holidays…..PicMonkey CollageBut I’ve also been too distracted with getting gifts and wrapping them, while still adjusting to balancing work, everyday errands and staying fit. Eh, working progress, but we still managed to fit in a last minute Christmas dinner with the girls {our lobster dinner will have to wait until the new year} where I got a mixer, finally. I also tried a persimmon for the first time, and managed to whip up this cake chock full of comforting spices.

I’m looking forward to the end of this week so that I can go home, to the blistering East Coast weather and enjoy myself a days worth of baking cookies, singing classic holiday songs, and savoring all things Christmas! With that I hope that in these last few days you take a step back and appreciate all the wonderful things that life has given you, embrace all the beautiful memories this time can bring.   1. That’s completely okay if you are feeling unmotivated/uninspired right now. The holidays are chaotic – I secretly can’t wait for January, normalcy, and a balanced budget – but I’m taking this time to embrace stepping back and reflecting on my blog, my life, and my future. This week, I’ll be doing the same as you. Cheers to the holidays!
